DONATE TO FILMOUT

Dear Friend of LGBT San Diego:

Thank you so much for being a part of the FilmOut San Diego Monthly Screenings! The past successes of special screenings such as: WERE THE WORLD MINE, MOMMIE DEAREST, THE HUNGER, XANADU and upcoming screenings of THE BIRDCAGE & STEEL MAGNOLIAS reaffirm the San Diego community is supportive of our ongoing mission to enlighten, educate, and entertain.
Additionally, we are thrilled to introduce you to FilmOut San Diego 2010, San Diego’s only LGBT Film Festival. We are fortunate to have had an extremely, artistically successful festival in 2009, with nothing but grateful and complimentary feedback from both audience members and participating filmmakers. We are proud to say we have put FilmOut San Diego on the map as a festival in which filmmakers are eager and excited to take part!
We will present the 12th San Diego LGBT Film Festival, April 16 - 22, 2010 at Birch North Park Theatre. The seven day event will include over 50 LGBT themed films from all over the Globe. As always, we strive to show the very best of the newest crop of LGBT themed film and video selections available.
As with most of the country, FilmOut San Diego has been hit hard by the economy. We are now reaching out to you in hope that you can help us in continuing with our monthly screenings ($2K per screening) and annual film festival ($75K to produce), so that we may continue on with LGBT films for the San Diego community in years to come.
We are actively seeking out donations for the 2010 film festival & monthly screenings and we need your help. FilmOut is run by a mostly volunteer Board of Directors, and with the struggling times, we really need your generosity if FilmOut is to continue into 2010 and beyond. Attached is a Donation Letter for your consideration.
FilmOut San Diego annually affirms the ongoing integrity and boundless imagination of our community and the artists who tell our stories. We believe our work is part of an ongoing effort to build a vibrant, affirming, and sustainable LGBT community in San Diego County. It will also allow us to invite film lovers from all over to spend time in San Diego and enjoy the many museums, parks, and other recreational facilities that our city has to offer. We hope you will join us in our efforts!
Thank you for taking the time to consider a donation. Any amount counts. If you have questions, please let us know.
Most Sincerely,
Matthew Habecker |Festival Director
Michael McQuiggan | Festival Programmer

THANKS TO ALL OUR SPONSORS

I’ll keep this short and sweet… You Did It!
Your generous support of FilmOut San Diego’s 2009 festival not only made it possible, but a huge success!
Thousands of members of our community came out to enjoy the LGBT themed films, meet and interact with filmmakers/talent and connect with each other—and are now aware of your support!
These are tough economic times, and LGBT festivals in other cities were forced to shut their doors due to lack of funding. FilmOut San Diego might have joined their ranks without our loyal advertisers, trade partners and generous grants from CICA.
The FilmOut Board, volunteers, and festival attendees are aware that this economic climate has affected individuals, businesses & organizations alike. Knowing you stepped up to support FilmOut means a lot.
FilmOut remains San Diego’s only LGBT film organization and we are determined to remain a significant venue for LGBT film arts. Through the continued support of generous sponsorships such as yours, we can continue to offer talented artists a venue in which to have their works seen, and for those who love and support the arts, a place where they view cutting edge talent and unique and creative material.

Once again, thank you for making FilmOut possible. We hope you’ll join us again next year!

Best,

Gay Rights Activist. Friend. Lover. Unifier. Politician. Fighter. Icon. Inspiration. Hero. His life changed history, and his courage changed lives. In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978, a hero for all Americans. Academy Award winner Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk under the direction of Academy Award nominee Gus Van Sant in Milk, filmed on location in San Francisco from an original screenplay by Dustin Lance Black, and produced by Academy Award winners Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen.
Milk charts the last eight years of Harvey Milk’s life. While living in New York City, he turns 40. Looking for more purpose, Milk and his lover Scott Smith (James Franco) relocate to San Francisco, where they found a small business, Castro Camera, in the heart of a working-class neighborhood that was soon to become a haven for gay people from around the country. With his beloved Castro neighborhood and beautiful city empowering him, Milk surprises Scott and himself by becoming an outspoken agent for change. He seeks equal rights and opportunities for all, and his great love for the city and its people brings him backing from young and old, straight and gay alike – at a time when prejudice and violence against gays was openly accepted as the norm.
